This is my second submission to Neil Gaiman’s contest “A calendar of Tales”, to the November story.
I chose the November tale ‘cause it’s the month I was born and because I really loved that story. A girl burning memories into some kind of magic fire that reminds me to the phoenix bird. Also, November is a month of rain, grey skies and cold, and I think my drawing reflects this weather that I love so much.
A curiosity about the drawing is that I wasn’t intending to do a portrait of a real girl, she was just someone I made up, but I was listening to Veruca Salt while I was drawing and even I was surprised when I realized that the girl looks very alike of the lead singer of this band.
That’s my submission to Neil Gaiman’s ’ A Calendar of Tales’, February.
This month’s story is one of my favourites, but what I really loved was the feeling I got when I imagined this yellow girl surrounded by a black and white world, even when the story wasn’t about it. The powerful image created by Gaiman in this is stuck in my mind forever. And I think this represents February itself, the first spark of colour and life among an age of cold and darkness called winter.
Eres la más grande, Summers. <3
